Evelyn Louise Youmans, 93 of San Diego, CA and Hamilton, MT passed away April 10, 2024, at Beehive Homes in Hamilton. Evelyn fought a long-term battle with dementia with humor and feistiness, she is finally at peace. Evelyn was surrounded by her loving and grateful daughters and grandchildren.
Evelyn was born April 9,1931, in La Harpe, Kansas, the daughter of the late Hugh T. and Grace Lenora (Wilcox) Wilson. She loved her family and was grateful for her relationships with her sisters, brothers, mother, father, and extended family.
Evelyn was married to Robert Youmans for many years prior to their divorce in 1973. They shared a long friendship until his death in 2018.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers William “Billy” Wilson, Glen “Buddy” Wilson; sisters Verle Mae Burris and Maxine Hazel Leavitt.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Ronette Youmans of Encinitas CA, Michele Youmans Craig of Hamilton, MT, and Sabrina Youmans of Los Angeles, CA; loving grandchildren Marisa Pearce of West Shokan, NY, Ryan and Molly Craig of Hamilton, MT., and Avery Youmans of Los Angeles, CA. Evelyn also loved and appreciated her supportive and patient sons-in law, Derrell Craig of Hamilton, MT and Dana Pearce of Encinitas, CA.
Evelyn was a caring mother, sister, grandmother, and daughter who gave her love unconditionally. She made sure her children knew that they were loved and capable; often commenting that the only way her daughters were going to college was to work hard and get good grades/scholarships - so, we did. She instilled a strong work ethic in her daughters and lived her life with kindness, acceptance, positivity, and generosity. We are honored to continue her legacy.
Evelyn was kind, generous, smart, funny, and tireless. From humble beginnings, she was fiscally responsible and created her own financial independence through hard work and delaying her retirement well into her 70s. Our hearts ache for the loss of our loving mother, and we are grateful for her love for so many years.
We would like to thank the loving staff at Beehive Homes, the talented and supportive healthcare team at Bitterroot Health, including the incomparable Jennifer Huttie, the amazing hospice team at Bitterroot Health, and the caring, professional support from Daly-Leach Memorial Chapel.
At Evelyn’s request, there will be no public services.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made “In Memory of Evelyn Youmans” to the Bitter Root Humane Association, P.O. Box 57, Hamilton, MT 59840.
